RE: Battery & Fridge Question

In a nut shell the bigger the group # the more amps you will get out of the battery and the longer it will last.
Group 24 70-85 Amp hours
Group 27 85-105 Amp hours
Group 31 95-125 Amp hours
We never camp with electric, we will can make it a easy 3-4 days with are group 24 battery and we also camp just as you. That was with are old PUP and are new TT.
I see no problem running the fridge on DC while you are driving, it will be fine, I myself run on gas while one the road, just shut it off when you pull into a fuel satation.
You may want to unplug your rig if you are going to stop for more than like 15min if running the fridge on DC, its just a good habit, the fride will take down the battery preaty fast.
Have fun and enjoy

I have been there and although I did not buy there I will say they were very good to talk with. Very good older place.

RE: Installing a Tornado?

Installed mine a few weeks ago, went just fine, took about 15min. Takes longer to get the tools out then to install the thing, no enclosed underbelly on ours. Just take your time and follow the directions. The only thing I did a little different was to use a little smaller drill bit for the screws.
As far as tools you really only need a hole saw, drill, drill bit, flat and phillips screw driver if I recall.

RE: thinking about buying a pop up

You really need to look at the pros and cons of each type of unit. I grew up with a PUP, then had my own kids and bought a PUP. We used the PUP for 2 years and this year we have a small TT for the 4 of us.
Some good advice from above, look for a good used one to find out if you like it or not, then if you decide to upgrade you won't take to big of a loss. With that said we had a Jayco 1007 PUP that we used for 2 years (bought it new) then sold it on Craigs List for a $600 loss, did not think that was bad for 2 years of use, the good resale for me may have been because of the gas prices, not sure?
For us the TT works well but you will need to make up your own mind, good deals to be had for TT now.
Have fun looking, thats half the fun.

RE: Why A High Wall over a Hybrid.

jay427,
How do you like the 199 with 2 kids? Did you get the bunk option? How is eating in on the long but narrow table? My wife had a problem with that... not much room for a dinner in on a rainy day.
We did the bunk option, as far as the table it is tight, but we still have yet to really eat a big meal inside. Even with the PUP we never really ate a full meal inside, always eat and cook outside, its all a give and take and how you like to camp.
We did take it out for a long weekend a week ago, was raniny and nasty one day, went inside to warm up and dry up with the heater. We all had enough room to do what we wanted for a few hours without any trouble. I don't think I could spend all day in there but for how we camp it works great. We never did set up the table during this past trip if that means anything.
The only option we added was a big old exhuast fan, had one in the PUP and would not own a camper without one.
That little slide adds a fair amount of space.
BTW we tow it with a 1/2ton with no issues at all, tows great.
Have fun looking around

RE: Why A High Wall over a Hybrid.

I see you looked at a Jayco 199, we went from a PUP to a Jayco 199 this year, we also have 2 kids (8 and 10). We did take a 2-3 mile per gallon hit.

I really wanted that trailer but the couch/table sleeping area was to short for my DS and or DD so we went for the Jayco 199, could not be happier.

RE: Decisions,Decisions?? Help!!

As for a smaller trailer we picked up a Jayco 199 this year, its a 20' TT, we also have 2 kids (8 and 10) and I'm about the same build as you. It works fine for our use and tows like a dream with our 1/2 ton. We never spend a lot of time in the camper so its fine for how we camp. Everything you look at is going to seem small to the 23b that you have now.
The rear slide units are a nice option as noted in a previous post.

RE: Screws falling out of the ceiling

one day would be perfect for the glue to dry (24hours), be carful with the gorilla glue as it stains just about anything. I would not be afraid of using yellow wood working glue either if all the material you are woking with is made with wood.

RE: Year 2 of pop up opening plumbing leak.

start the heater and or stove to purge some of the gas line, it can take a long time for the little pilot light on the water heater to suck the air out.
I have used one of those lighter stick things and heated up the thermal couple enough to open the main gas valve to, just be sure to lite the main burner, probley not the best idea but it does work.

RE: Smaller TT's gaining popularity

When we bought this past winter it was one of our requirments to stay small so we could use are 1/2ton sub, and to be able to fit in most of are camping sites.

RE: Anyone slowing down to save on gas?

have not slowed down really, just shorter trips. Does not help that we went from a PUP to a small TT either. But the gas hit with the TT is worth it for us.
